Wigginholt

The Wey and Arun's electric barge has electric propulsion equipment supplied and fitted by The Solar Boat Company. The 60-seater trip boat entered service in April 2009. Wiggonholt is 60' long and 10' wide, the dimensions of the locks on this canal. It has two electric motors with a traction battery. An overnight charge is sufficient for a day's silent cruising. The boat has been designed to allow the installation of solar panels in the future, to improve the speed and range and reduce the need for shore power. Thousands of passengers have been delighted by the silent electric boat trips.

Beauchamp The Floating Classroom

Built in 2001 as British Waterways' state-of-the-art electric barge. Beauchamp is the largest battery powered boat on Britain's canals at 55 Tons, 73' x 15'. The Solar Boat Company carried out a major refit of the electrical power system in 2009, which included a 16kW battery charger, 8kW inverter, two Lynch motors and 3 Tons of batteries beneath the floor. It is based at Little Venice in London and is available for hire, with discounts to community or educational groups.
